Stories About the Marriage Prep Experience

When Mary and Joe attended Three to Get Married in 2010, they were determined to make the most of their marriage prep weekend. They listened closely to the talks and worked on their questionnaires. The conversations they shared were anything but superficial. Some of these discussions brought up issues from Mary’s past. Still very much in love, but recognizing that they must find resolutions in order to move forward in a healthy way, they decided to “dis-engage” and began meeting with a counselor. They eventually re-engaged and celebrated their wedding. Now happily married, they attribute the Three To Get Married Program as fundamental in getting them off to a healthy and happy start.

When fertility issues plagued them, John and Betty drew upon lessons from marriage prep about communication, fostering intimacy and trusting in God’s love for them to pull together and face the uncertainties of what their family would look like. Now they are happy to report they have two adorable children and are joining our Marriage Prep speaker team next year!

When Bob and Sue attended Three to Get Married they were ready to just check off the next thing to do on their wedding planning list. A non-Catholic, Sue had agreed to attend the Three to Get Married program as part of the process to marry in the Catholic Church, but she was disappointed when Bob didn’t want to spend any time on the questionnaires after each talk. She challenged Bob on this. “You’re the Catholic one," she said. "If you won’t take this seriously, why should I?” This shook Bob, and they spent the rest of their weekend, and their engagement, seriously addressing some issues in their relationship that they had previously glossed over.
